WinXP Places Bar, Total Commander 6.55 - Boost up your comm tasks

Tech

Have you been using Windows XP, you would be irritated by the default places bar that shows up everytime you choose to save a file to your computer.

Press Control-S, and you’ll see a default “Save as” dialog like this:

saveasdef.JPG

Seemingly, the default places do not suite you well, like Network Places or My Recent Documents, therefore it usually results in a clogged Desktop :D Now these are the custom places I want:

saveas_modified

If you download manga daily like me, you would love to have a place bar to the Manga directory :D

The easiest method to customize places bar is executing gpedit.msc (Start->run->gpedit.msc)

Or regedit:

saveas_reg

If there are no such entries in your registry, just create them. This article explains it in details: http://www.windowsitpro.com/Article/ArticleID/24828/24828.html

There are many “software” that provide GUI for customizing Places Bar. I don’t remember them all, since I’ve never used any, but one of the most popular should be TweakXP

Click here to download OReilly book on fixing windows XP. There is a better book by Annoyances.org, I will upload if requested.

Contributions are most welcomed :)
