When the long-waited movie was released in Singapore yesterday, 03 April 2008, FAPAC (Ấp Bắc) team eagerly went to Cathay Cinepleisure Orchard to “deflower” it :8 . (Disclaimer: the word “deflower” was coined by Trần Minh and excitedly exploited by Nguyễn Quốc Sử, not me)

As you all know, the movie depicts the glorious Zhao Zi Long (Triệu Tử Long), with 2 fictional characters: Luo Ping An (Lỗ Bình An) and Cao Ying (tạm dịch Tào Yến :P ). If you have watched most movies of Andy Lau lately (The Warlords - Đầu Danh Trạng, Battle of the Wits - Binh Pháp Mặc Công…), it can be easily inferred that Luo Ping An is a friend-but-later-enemy of Zhao ZiLong; and Cao Ying, grand-daughter of Cao Cao, is grave-but-respectful-enemy of Zhao Zi Long.

The movie succeeded in luring many of us to the theater.
The movie failed to:
- screen glorious battles from Three Kingdoms. The number of soldiers and the size of massacres are much less than that of “Romance of the Three Kingdoms” made in 1986 by China Television Network..
- feature much-admired heroes, especially the Five Tiger General (Ngũ Hổ Tướng). Even the fight between Zhao ZiLong, Zhang Fei and Guan Yu was bad. They fought in a small room, and I did not know who wanted to kill who
- convey. The storyline tried to convey this message: “heroes have the right to bleed”, “every hero has his ending”.. For me, all I can see on the screen were Andy Lau and Sammo Hung (Hồng Kim Bảo) crying all the time. :lol:

Overall, a 4/10 for this movie. Watch it if you want some tears..
